So Morikawa is an assistant professor in the University of Tokyo’s department of civil engineering. His research focus is the relationship between infrastructure, society and public policy, which he studies by comparing cases in developing and developed countries. While working on the social impact of infrastructure development in the developing world, he has become especially interested in construction companies’ overseas business strategies.
Morikawa has joined the Japan Forum for Innovation and Technology (JFIT) and the School of Global Policy and Strategy (GPS) as a visiting professor this summer, thanks to a Japan Foundation grant on Japan and the geopolitics of the Indo-Pacific. At UC San Diego, he has taught several classes and has worked on research about aid competition and infrastructure policy in the Indo-Pacific.
He earned his Ph.D., Master of Engineering and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Tokyo.
